Type C or Drained cavity systems can be used to achieve a grade 3 level of protection or 'Dry' basement as outlined in BS8102. These systems are installed internally in the structure and work by creating and maintaining a void between the dry internal environment and the wet external envelope of the structure.

The system is generally linked to the site drainage system via a gravity system or a sump and pump installation.
